When the news broke that Comcast had bid £1.6bn for ITV, Lydia and I thought, hands down, it would be the biggest story of the week. But then Tim Davie, Director General of the BBC resigned. Cue hasty updates to this episode where we discuss both developments.

On the BBC, we talk about whether the DG role is now just too big, too complicated, for one person to handle; and whether Davie leaving – and the charter renewal next year – presents an opportunity for the corporation to redesign itself as a modern organisation, ready to tackle both internal issues and continue its various roles (journalistic, cultural, programme-maker, streamer) for the public.

On ITV, I present data from the broadcaster’s full-year results 2019-24 to help us understand why Comcast bid that figure, £1.6bn. I also argue (hypothesise) that it’s not a real offer (not really, not yet) and what might happen next.

As ever, hope you enjoy the episode. Let us know what you think via LinkedIn.
