At this week’s OTT Question Time Online we’re discussing the changing face of news provision – on linear and OTT – with Joe Harbinson, Head of Commercial Partnerships from Sky News, Stephen Hull, Head of Digital Content & Strategy (News) from ITV, and Jonny McGuigan, Executive Editor: Growth, Social & Weather from BBC News.
The context here is that as younger audiences move away from linear schedules and curated bulletins, news organisations face the urgent challenge of cutting through the noise, building trust, and meeting people where they are – on digital, on-demand, and on social platforms. How are traditional broadcasters are reinventing themselves to stay relevant in a rapidly changing news ecosystem?
Specific talking points include:
- Exploring shifts in audience behaviour and how that’s influenced BBC, ITV and Sky newsroom strategy
- Deciding which stories belong on TikTok, YouTube, or traditional broadcast and whether there’s a risk that chasing audiences on every platform can dilute existing brand identities
- Considering it traditional ideas of “impartiality” still resonate with younger audiences
- Asking, in 2025, what the equivalent of “news at 10pm” is for audiences and news organisations
- And debating whether, in times of crisis, viewers return to traditional – and trusted – news sources rather than newer platforms
This episode of OTT Question Time Online will be pre-recorded on Thursday 23 October. The video will be available here, on the VOD Pro website, within 24 hours. We’ll keep you posted!
