At the recent RTS Conference, the key theme was “Where Do We Grow From Here?”. Collaboration between broadcasters was touted as one way of doing this and over the last few months we’ve been seeing more and more examples of content sharing, FAST channel launches and strategic tie-ups, as well as the growth of premium tiers and different monetisation models.

Collaborative content strategies, then, was the topic of conversation for this week’s episode of OTT Question Time Online.

Together with Elisabetta Carruba, Director EMEA, Prime Video & Amazon Studios, Alex Pumfrey, Director of Strategic Partnerships, ITV and Sophie Garnham, Director, Commercial Business Development, BBC, and hosted this week by Lydia Fairfax, Founder of Triple Crown Consulting, we explored:

  • How each streamer is looking to grow its streaming service and how smart content partnerships contribute to this
  • The complexities of acquiring rights in a streaming world and how this differs from more traditional “linear” broadcasting
  • How ITV’s recent content sharing deal with Disney+ is going and what are the drivers behind that collaboration
  • How Amazon partners with content providers and what influences the choice of partner channels offered via Prime Video Channels
  •  What is the content sharing relationship between the BBC and UKTV within the UK and with Britbox abroad, and what other strategic content collaborations are BBC looking at
