I’m joined by Briana Larsen, VP of Content Partnerships at Xperi, to discuss how TiVo brings streaming services and linear TV together across smart TVs, pay-TV boxes and automotive entertainment systems. Briana explains how negotiating partnerships across multiple operators and manufacturers helps smaller players secure major streaming apps, and why content discovery needs to extend beyond individual apps. We also explore how distribution agreements balance reach, promotion and metadata integration to help viewers find something to watch.
Are streaming’s walled gardens coming down for good? We discuss the move from exclusivity towards wider distribution, the opportunities for older catalogue content on FAST channels, and the growing importance of advertising alongside subscriptions. Briana also reflects on the differences between European and US viewing habits, YouTube’s place on the TV home screen, and whether the communal experience of watching television will keep drawing audiences back to the biggest screen in the house.
